Details About Hepcidin ELISA Kit

The Hepcidin ELISA kit is a monoclonal antibody-based assay that binds with higher affinity to the N-terminus of all hepcidin-25. This antibody also binds low prosperity, N-terminus isomers of hepcidin-25 with reduced affinities. Hepcidin is a 25-amino acid peptide hormone which regulates dietary iron absorption in the duodenum, controls recycling of senescent erythrocyte , and oversees iron transfer from hepatocytes to plasma.

Hepcidin is positively controlled by plasma and IL-6 and can be suppressed by erythropoiesis through erythroferrone. Abnormally low serum hepcidin is associated with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and hereditary hemochromatosis, and higher serum. You can check for the contact information on supplier’s website to know more about this ELISA kit.

Hepcidin may result in iron sequestration and to anemia of inflammation (anemia of chronic illness ) found in chronic kidney disease (CKD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), different cancers, and iron refractory iron deficiency anemia (IRIDA). Hepcidin amounts are proven to be helpful in predicting response to oral iron treatment.

The Individual hepcidin (Hepc) ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively measure the degree of hepcidin in human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, or cell lysates.  This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique, where hepcidin in the samples or samples are sandwiched between pre-coated hepcidin antibody and HRP-conjugated antibody specific for hepcidin.

After a wash to remove any unbound reagent, the TMB substrate solution is added into the wells and color develops in proportion to the total amount of hepcidin bound in the first step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the colour is measured at 450 nm by means of a microplate reader. Hepcidin, the fundamental regulator of systemic iron homeostasis, closely influences erythrocyte production.
